For those who don’t know, we travel out to a fantastic facility in the south of Portugal, train in the morning and afternoon, with supplementary beach circuits and swimming – Tasters of the fun to be had can be seen below!
The track we use is a top of the range 8 lane track with an indoor facility for technical training and a gym for your additional workouts. It is set within miles of fantastic trails, perfect for the longer distance runners to use for their non-track sessions. Monte Gordo is used by a number of national squads, and is renowned as being the perfect place to go warm weather training. Team GB used the same facilities as a training camp before the Olympics!! And we will have our fantastic coach, Eric Brees, out with us to led sessions and provide support to all athletes.
In the evenings, we go out to the local bars, or watch movies, or socialize with other athletes and when we are feeling racy, occasionally play bingo in the hotel bar.
We are staying at the Dunamar Hotel, a fabulous 4* hotel right on the beach. We will be staying in apartments complete with two bedrooms, two bathrooms balconies and kitchens; but don’t worry they’ll be plenty food provided each morning and evening in the buffet restaurant – a highlight of the days last year. The hotel also boasts 3 swimming pools; 2 outdoor and 1 indoor as well as a gym.
It is THE most fun 10 days, and incredibly useful for our varsity preparations, focusing the mind and preparing the body, not to mention improving intra-team relations! We generally have a mixture of long distance, middle, sprints, jumps and throws, as it is truly very useful for all groups. And the more people that go, the better the training will be!
